Petrohué River is located in the X region of Chile, a distance of 59 kilometers south-east of the peaceful lakeside town of Puerto Varas, 1 hour from the airport "El Tepual" of Puerto Montt.
Petrohué means, in the Mapuche language, "place of petros" (also known as small flies jejenes).
The origin Petrohué River, is attributed to the retreat of glaciers and the birth of the Osorno Volcano in the middle of the Andes.
Initially, a large lake covered much of the region, but the constant eruptions of the volcanoes Osorno and imposing Calbuco divided the lake into two, the training that we know today as Lake Llanquihue and Lake Todos Los Santos, also leaving.
The Petrohue river, runs 36 kms. even within the Reloncaví to open the way to your mouth at the Pacific Ocean. Here, the Petrohué river, open and it impetuously to the view of those who visit, forming white currents, and very good deep and turquoise color.
